ALERT: Patch Released Restore Data Lost in v2.1.1 to 3.0 Upgrade
December 10, 2009
We became aware shortly after Apple posted HeartWise 3.0 to the App Store that the application data files were being overwritten when installing the update through the App Store or iTunes for many users. We did not receive a response from Apple to assist in determining the root cause for the App Store / iTunes overwriting the data file during the upgrade. Past users of HeartWise that have upgraded before know this is not a normal occurrence.
Fortunately, HeartWise quietly saves a backup copy of users data in a secondary file - a capability that we put in mainly to assist us in development and testing. We have DEVELOPED A PATCH that for many users who still have this backup file on their devices can attempt to restore the missing data. This patch will not be able to restore data for users who have completely removed and reinstalled the HeartWise application (thus erasing all files) or for whom the App Store / iTunes has erased the backup file during upgrading or subsequent syncs.
It takes a MINIMUM of 14 days to get any software through Apple's approval process (holiday delays not included), so look for this patch to become available after Christmas. As always, we strongly recommend that users export their measurements for safe keeping prior to downloading this or any application update and syncing with iTunes.
This issue only affects HeartWise version 2.1 users who are upgrading to version 3.0. This issue DOES NOT affect new users.
